Biographie Radiators are heat exchangers used to transfer thermal energy from one medium to another for the purpose of cooling and heating. The majority of radiators are constructed to function in cars, buildings, and electronics.

A radiator is always a source of heat to its environment, although this may be for either the purpose of heating this environment or for cooling the fluid or coolant supplied to it, as for automotive engine cooling and HVAC dry cooling towers. Despite the name, most radiators transfer the bulk of their heat via convection instead of thermal radiation.

Radiator working principle:

The radiator is a pretty simple device. Nowadays most modern cars use aluminum radiators. Radiators usually have a tank on each side, and inside the tank is a transmission cooler.

In this type of radiator, you’re going to have an aluminum mesh. In this aluminum device, It consists of two ports inlet and an outlet. Inside the radiator, there are tubes that are mounted in a parallel arrangement. And the aluminum fins are attached to all of the tubes.

The Radiator working is very simple. In the radiator, the coolant flows from the inlet to the outlet through many tubes mounted in a parallel arrangement.

The hot water enters the radiator through the inlet port. And a fan is attached behind the radiator to cool down the hot water in the tubes. The fan blows the air and cools down the water. So the water is going to come out cooler than it entered before and then go back to the engine.

What You Need to Know About Engine Oil Coolers

If you drive a large truck or a high-performance vehicle, then your cooling system should consist of more than a radiator. Chances are, your vehicle has an oil cooler. If it doesn't, then you may need to install one. Oil coolers keep your engine oil within an optimum temperature to ensure it can handle extreme conditions like when you tow or race.

What Are Oil Coolers?

An oil cooler is a radiator-like component specifically designed to keep your oil cool. It consists of tubes and fins that allow for good airflow to pass through. Usually, they are placed where they can receive maximum airflows such as in front of or behind the radiator or fans.

Oil coolers attach to an adapter near the oil filter to ensure adequate pressure through the system. Oil is air-cooled as it circulates through the cooler before it returns to the engine.

Which Vehicles Need Oil Coolers?

While any vehicle can have an oil cooler, vehicles frequently involved in heavy-duty or high-performance situations usually require one. Coolers are most often in semi-trucks, heavy-duty pickup trucks that haul trailers, and sports vehicles. However, if you tow a great deal with your regular passenger car, then you would also benefit from an oil cooler.

Oil coolers extend the life of your vehicle's engine and reduce the chance of overheating under extreme conditions. For example, if you haul a trailer uphill for long distances, then chances are that your engine works at maximum capacity for a long time. This creates a lot of heat that needs a way to dissipate. If the heat cannot be released, then it builds up and raises the engine's temperature. An oil cooler provides an extra surface for that heat to dissipate.

Do Oil Coolers Need Special Attention?

If installed correctly, your engine oil cooler should not need much maintenance. Like radiators, make sure to keep your cooler clean of debris, and check for leaks. On top of that, make sure you keep your engine oil in good condition. Change your oil at the recommended intervals. This helps to reduce the chance that your cooler will plug internally.

Sumitomo Oil Cooler

A Sumitomo oil cooler is a separate, smaller radiator to an engine's main radiator, which maintains an oil supply at a consistent, optimal temperature. Its purpose is to cool the oil passing through the coils, thus improving the engine and the transmission’s lifetime. They are situated in front of an engine's cooling system. Oil coolers are necessary for diesel engines (higher temperature range) and automatic gearboxes. A cooler plays an important role in the smooth running of a vehicle by dissipating heat while transporting oil away from moving parts into the oil pan.

What is the Komatsu radiator?

The Komatsu radiator is a heat exchanger to reduce the temperature of coolant water in the engine cooling system. A radiator core has fins to increase the surface area and make cooling performance higher. An engine fan generates airflow through the fins which cool down the radiator.

Maintenance of radiator

Cooling efficiency must be maintained otherwise engine output is limited due to overheating; the high temperature may cause damage to each part of the engine. A radiator needs to be cleaned regularly, especially in industry job site environments. Clogged radiators need to be cleaned by using compressed air. Do not use pressurized water to prevent damage to the fins. We recommend using air blown from a distance to clean the fin.

What is a Condenser?

The condenser is included in cooling systems such as air conditioning in cars and buildings, and freezers. It helps ventilate the heat of the vapor refrigerant at high temperatures and pressure. Its purpose is to condense the heat out while maintaining the same level of pressure.

The refrigerant placed in a condenser is in form of vapor and at high temperature because it was heated and pressed at high pressure from the compressor. Once the refrigerant passes through the condenser wall, it changes from the original form of vapor to liquid with the aid of air and water in order to remove the heat whilst its pressure remains.

Types of Condenser

The condenser is categorized into many types according to the objective of usage. The ventilation of the heat comes in different forms which require water and electricity to complete the cycle, hence it is important to take this fact into consideration.

Types of condensers are Air Cooled condensers, Water Cooled condensers, and Evaporative Condenser.

Air Cooled Condenser uses air as the main hero to ventilate heat from the refrigerant in order to condense the refrigerant. In general, this type of condenser is made from finned copper or iron pipes in order to enlarge the surface that is used for heat ventilation.

The air that continues to the condenser will be low, therefore, there is a need to increase the surface of the condenser. An air-cooled condenser as the name suggested uses air in relation to the speed of air circulation. The design of an air-cooled condenser should care for the rate of air circulation at the lowest motion possible but with high quality in heat transfer.

The speed of air that increases make the fan works harder. The normal speed of air that is used to ventilate is 2.5 and 6 meters per second, subject to change. ;

A remote condenser is installed separately from a compressor. It can be used both indoors and outdoor in which the wind direction should take into account to designate the location of the condenser. The remote condenser uses a blower to increase the amount of air passing through the surface of the condenser. Its benefits come in terms of shape and size reduction of the condenser.

Water Cooled Condenser

The reduction of heat from refrigerants by using water as the main mechanic to ventilate is to aid the refrigerant to condense. The quality of water and refrigerant that exchange makes the temperature of water increase and evaporate. Water will blow the vapor into the air which can be divided into two systems.

Maintenance of a Condenser and a Cooling Tower

A condenser is one of the equipment that does not need regular care, nonetheless, the lubricant of a fan bearing and the surface of a condenser must be double-checked. The surface of a condenser should be clean at all times and should not contain dust or dirt because the Water Cooled Condenser may have residues.
